Summary: The most common signs of anxiety and depression include feelings of being down or blue, phobias, uncontrollable worrying, poor concentration, loss of pleasure, sleeping problems, panic attacks, unexplainable aches, pains or headaches, obsessions, rituals, and ongoing feelings of nervousness or tension. Sometimes, anxiety can produce physical symptoms.

Canadian Study Predicts Rate of PTSD in Vets - [12/14/07]

Summary: A national survey of Canadian veterans found the rates of probable PTSD were 11% for those deployed once and 15% for those deployed twice or more. The risk increased among soldiers who were young and single.

Comment: The risk factors can help the military and primary care physicians predict psychiatric problems in veterans returning from service.


Moms-to-Be Often Depressed, Anxious - [11/22/07]

Summary: Expectant mothers often feels anxious and depressed, and these feelings can harm the mom and baby.

Comment: Doctors should continually assess the mental health of pregnant women, particularly during the first and third trimesters, when they are at greatest risk for anxiety and depression.
